Salesforce Developer Job Description Template (Free, 2026)
A free, copy ready Salesforce Developer job description template for 2026, calibrated by seniority with the exact must have skills and 2026 certifications.
A good Salesforce Developer job description does two things in 2026. It filters out the 80 percent of candidates who cannot ship production Apex, and it wins the 20 percent who can, before your competitor writes back. The template below is the one Apiire uses to brief clients across UK, DACH, France, Benelux and Ireland, calibrated by seniority and updated for the platform as it stands in September 2026 (Data Cloud grounded LWC, Agentforce actions, Flow first automation, source driven DX). Copy it, drop your company block on top, adjust the two calibration levers, and post.
Methodology: this template is drawn from 214 Salesforce Developer briefs Apiire negotiated between September 2025 and August 2026, cross referenced with the Salesforce Ben Developer Job Description guide, the Toptal Salesforce Developer template, and hiring intent signals from Tenth Revolution (Mason Frank). Skills and certification stack reflect the September 2026 platform release, not the 2023 template still circulating on most templating sites.
The 2026 Salesforce Developer job description template
This is the version you can paste directly into your ATS. Two calibration levers matter: the seniority label (junior, mid, senior) and the primary cloud (Sales, Service, Marketing, Data or Industry). Everything else stays constant across briefs.
Job title
Salesforce Developer, [seniority], [primary cloud]. Example: Senior Salesforce Developer, Service Cloud. Avoid generic titles like Salesforce Engineer or CRM Developer, they cut applications by roughly 30 percent on the specialist boards our candidates monitor.
Two sentence hook
We are hiring a Salesforce Developer to own the delivery of [primary cloud] on our production org, with a specific 2026 focus on [Data Cloud grounding / Agentforce actions / MuleSoft integration]. You will ship Apex, LWC and Flow into a live business every sprint, and you will do it with senior support, real code review, and a clear certification path.
Responsibilities (6 bullets, no more)
- Design and ship Apex classes and triggers with bulkification and governor limit awareness for a production org handling [X] million records.
- Build Lightning Web Components grounded in Data Cloud, wired through Lightning Data Service and Wire Service, tested to 85 percent code coverage minimum.
- Own Flow first automation for record triggered logic, replacing legacy Process Builder and workflow rules on a documented migration plan.
- Integrate Salesforce with [target systems] using REST and SOAP APIs, Platform Events, and where relevant MuleSoft or a middleware equivalent.
- Run source driven development through Salesforce DX and Git, contribute to CI CD pipelines, and lead code reviews on your surface area.
- Partner with the Salesforce Admin and the Business Analyst to translate functional requirements into scalable technical designs.
Must have skills
- Apex development at production quality, including SOQL and SOSL query optimisation, asynchronous patterns (Queueable, Batch, Future) and error handling.
- Lightning Web Components, including Wire Service, reactive properties, and integration with Lightning Data Service.
- Flow, including screen flows, record triggered flows, and subflows. Process Builder is not a substitute in 2026.
- Salesforce APIs (REST, SOAP, Bulk) and integration patterns with external systems.
- Source driven development: Salesforce DX, Git, unlocked packages, sandbox strategy.
- Certified Platform Developer I as a minimum. Platform Developer II or App Builder for mid and senior roles.
Nice to have skills for 2026
- Agentforce Specialist certification and at least one production deployment of an Agentforce action or agent workflow.
- Data Cloud implementation experience: data streams, unified profiles, calculated insights, activation targets.
- OmniStudio (Vlocity) for regulated industries: FSC, Health Cloud, Communications Cloud.
- MuleSoft Certified Developer or equivalent middleware experience.
- JavaScript Developer I certification for front end heavy roles.
Seniority calibration: junior, mid, senior
The single biggest failure mode we see in Salesforce Developer briefs is asking for a mid rate at a senior spec. The table below is our internal calibration grid, based on 214 developer briefs closed in the last 12 months across Europe. Salary ranges are permanent gross annual for the UK (GBP) and Germany (EUR) as calibration anchors, and can be adjusted to any other market using our European Salesforce developer cost guide.
| Level | Experience | Certifications | Autonomy | UK salary (GBP) | DE salary (EUR) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Junior | 0 to 2 years | Admin or PD1 | Supported by senior on all deliveries | 45,000 to 60,000 | 50,000 to 65,000 |
| Mid | 2 to 5 years | PD1 plus one specialist | Owns features end to end, code reviewed | 65,000 to 85,000 | 70,000 to 90,000 |
| Senior | 5 to 8 years | PD2 plus 2 specialists | Owns modules, mentors, defines patterns | 85,000 to 110,000 | 90,000 to 115,000 |
| Lead | 8 plus years | PD2, App Architect, plus 2 specialists | Owns architecture within one cloud, leads reviews | 105,000 to 130,000 | 110,000 to 135,000 |
Two calibration reads. First, do not require Platform Developer II on a mid role, it prices out 60 percent of qualified candidates and stretches your time to hire by roughly 3 weeks. Second, if you list Agentforce plus Data Cloud plus MuleSoft as must haves on the same brief, you are hiring a Solution Architect and the salary must reflect it. Our full framework on writing hireable specs is in Recruter un Salesforce Admin en 2026 (methodology is identical for developers).
The three mistakes that kill Salesforce Developer applications
Three drafting errors consistently drop your qualified application count by 40 to 60 percent, and we see all three in more than half the briefs Apiire is asked to fix. Cutting them is the fastest way to double your candidate pipeline before touching the salary line.
- Legacy stack signals. Any brief that lists Visualforce or Aura Components as a must have flags the org as behind on the platform. Frame them as maintain and migrate context, not new build requirements. Same rule for Process Builder.
- Certification maximalism. Requiring Platform Developer II plus JavaScript Developer I plus Salesforce Certified Administrator plus a specialist certification on a mid role filters the market to under 5 percent of qualified candidates. Pick one required, list the rest as nice to have.
- Vague scope. A brief that does not name the primary cloud, the org size, and the specific 2026 focus (Data Cloud, Agentforce, integration) converts less than half as well as one that does. The best briefs we place in under 3 weeks are 400 to 500 words, not 1,500.
Certifications: what to require, what to reward
Salesforce ships more than 40 certifications in 2026, and the temptation is to demand all of them. In our sample, the requirement to reward split that actually correlates with fast hires is smaller than that. Platform Developer I is the baseline, everything else is bonus.
- Required. Platform Developer I (all levels). Platform Developer II for senior and lead roles only.
- Strongly rewarded. Agentforce Specialist (2026 top signal), Data Cloud Consultant, JavaScript Developer I, App Builder.
- Nice to have. Salesforce Certified Administrator, Marketing Cloud Developer, Industries CPQ Developer, MuleSoft Developer.
- Non signal. Trailhead badges and Superbadges alone. They matter only when tied to a delivered project.
How to use this template with your ATS
Copy the template into your ATS as a job template, then customise the four variable slots: seniority label, primary cloud, target systems for integration, and salary band. Keep the total length between 400 and 700 words. Anything longer signals a scope you have not decided, and anything shorter reads as a placeholder. Post it on the specialist boards first (SalesforceBen Jobs, Mason Frank, Talent Stacker) before the general boards (LinkedIn, Indeed), where 65 to 70 percent of qualified applications originate.
Two operational reminders. Post the salary band. Briefs without a salary line drop qualified applications by roughly 55 percent in our data and stretch time to hire by an average of 4 weeks. And screen for the red flags before booking a technical interview, our checklist is in Red flags when hiring Salesforce developers.
FAQ: Salesforce Developer job description template 2026
What is the ideal length of a Salesforce Developer job description in 2026?
Between 400 and 700 words. The 214 briefs we closed in the last 12 months cluster tightly in this band. Under 400 words reads as unfinished and converts under 3 percent of views to applications. Over 800 words signals a scope the hiring manager has not decided, and drops qualified application rate by 30 to 40 percent.
Should I require Platform Developer II certification on a mid level Salesforce Developer role?
No. Platform Developer II is the credential that separates the senior posting from the mid level one, and requiring it on a mid role prices out roughly 60 percent of qualified candidates and adds an average 3 weeks to time to hire. List it as strongly preferred instead, and require Platform Developer I.
How many years of experience should I ask for on a mid level Salesforce Developer job description?
Two to five years of hands on Salesforce development with Apex and LWC. Requiring five or more years on a mid role converts under 5 percent, and requiring less than two on a role that expects independent delivery generates high application volume but low conversion at the technical interview stage.
Are Agentforce or Data Cloud skills required on a 2026 Salesforce Developer job description?
Required only on briefs where these clouds are part of the immediate 6 month roadmap. Otherwise they belong in the nice to have block, where they act as a filter for higher end candidates without pricing out qualified developers who have not touched these clouds yet.
Should the salary band be posted on a Salesforce Developer job description?
Yes, always. Briefs without a posted salary band converted 55 percent fewer qualified applications in our 2026 sample, and closed 4 weeks slower on average. In markets where salary transparency is legally required (UK for most roles from 2026, Ireland, most Nordics, several EU jurisdictions), the salary band is mandatory. Everywhere else, it is still the single fastest lever to lift your application quality.
How should I differentiate a Salesforce Developer job description from a Salesforce Administrator one?
Anchor the developer brief on code (Apex, LWC, integration, DX) and the administrator brief on configuration (Flow, security, data model, user management). Overlap on Flow is legitimate in 2026, but requiring Apex on an administrator brief inflates cost by roughly 30 to 40 percent without buying anything you need. Our companion piece Recruter un Salesforce Admin en 2026 covers the admin side of the same framework.
