Is Salesforce Still a Good Career in 2026? The Numbers Behind the Answer
Is Salesforce still a good career in 2026? Yes above the entry level: the UK median hit 60,000 pounds, up 12.68 percent, while admin pay fell 11 percent.
Is Salesforce still a good career in 2026? Yes, but the answer now depends almost entirely on where you sit in the stack, and the gap between the top and the bottom of that stack has never been this wide. In the six months to 28 October 2026, the UK permanent median for roles citing Salesforce reached 60,000 pounds, up 12.68 percent year on year. Over the same window the administrator median fell 11.11 percent to 40,000 pounds. Same ecosystem, opposite directions. This guide runs the five and ten year arithmetic instead of collecting opinions.
Methodology: UK permanent medians, year on year movements and advert volumes are IT Jobs Watch figures for the six months to 28 October 2026. Platform demand figures come from Salesforce's second quarter fiscal 2027 results, published 26 August 2026. The all occupations comparison is the median gross annual pay for UK full time employees in the ONS Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings 2026, published 22 October 2026. Supply, demand and job change figures come from the Salesforce Ben 2026 salary survey of 2,316 professionals. The ten year model and anything described as a brief or a shortlist observation is Apiire's own, drawn from 187 European Salesforce placements closed between January 2025 and August 2026, and is flagged as such.
Is Salesforce still a good career? Check the demand side first
Careers follow budgets, so start with the budget. Salesforce reported quarterly revenue of 11.3 billion dollars for the three months to 31 July 2026, up 11 percent year on year, and raised full year fiscal 2027 guidance to between 46.1 and 46.4 billion dollars. Agentforce annual recurring revenue passed 1.5 billion dollars, up more than 240 percent, and Agentforce together with Data 360 reached nearly 3.9 billion dollars.
The number that matters most for hiring is none of those. It is current remaining performance obligation, 33.5 billion dollars, up 14 percent in constant currency. That is contracted revenue due in the next twelve months, which means work that has been signed and has to be delivered by someone. It is the closest thing the market has to a leading indicator of demand for implementation skills, and it is growing faster than revenue. The advert data agrees: 1,694 UK permanent vacancies cited Salesforce in the six months to 28 October 2026, against 988 in the same period a year earlier.
What each role actually paid in the six months to 28 October 2026
| Role (UK permanent) | Median 2026 | Change year on year | Adverts, 6 months | A year earlier |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| All roles citing Salesforce | 60,000 pounds | plus 12.68 percent | 1,694 | 988 |
| Salesforce administrator | 40,000 pounds | minus 11.11 percent | 95 | 48 |
| Salesforce developer | 65,000 pounds | plus 8.33 percent | 220 | 76 |
| Salesforce consultant | 95,000 pounds | plus 35.71 percent | 29 | 4 |
| Salesforce architect | 100,000 pounds | plus 11.11 percent | 72 | 45 |
| All Salesforce roles, 25th percentile | 40,000 pounds | not published | n/a | n/a |
| All Salesforce roles, 90th percentile | 100,000 pounds | not published | n/a | n/a |
Three readings come out of that table. First, the administrator row is the only one going backwards, and it is going backwards while its advert count doubles, which is what a buyer's market looks like. Second, the 25th percentile of the whole market sits at exactly the administrator median, so an admin offer is structurally a bottom quartile offer. Third, the consultant row moved 35.71 percent on 29 adverts, a sample too small to plan a career around, and we flag it rather than lead with it.
The five and ten year return on a Salesforce career, calculated
Nobody asking whether Salesforce is still a good career wants a one year snapshot. They want to know what a decade of it is worth. The model below is Apiire's own, not published data. It takes the IT Jobs Watch medians above as the pay anchors, assumes a realistic progression pace from the placements we close, and holds everything in nominal gross pounds with no inflation uplift on any row, so the comparison with the all occupations median is like for like.
| Trajectory | Years 1 to 2 | Years 3 to 5 | Years 6 to 10 | 5 year gross | 10 year gross |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Stay an administrator | 32,000 pounds | 40,000 pounds | 46,000 pounds | 184,000 pounds | 414,000 pounds |
| Admin then developer | 32,000 pounds | 55,000 pounds | 75,000 pounds | 229,000 pounds | 604,000 pounds |
| Admin then consultant then architect | 32,000 pounds | 55,000 pounds | 88,000 pounds | 229,000 pounds | 669,000 pounds |
| UK full time median, all occupations | 40,911 pounds | 40,911 pounds | 40,911 pounds | 204,555 pounds | 409,110 pounds |
The finding is uncomfortable and it is the honest answer to the question. Ten years of a Salesforce career that never leaves the administrator role is worth 414,000 pounds against 409,110 pounds for the UK full time median across every occupation, a difference of roughly 1 percent. The certification cost, the unpaid study weekends and the job search are not repaid by the admin track alone. They are repaid by the second move. Going developer adds about 195,000 pounds over the decade and the consultant to architect route adds about 260,000 pounds, and both are paid for by a decision taken in year three, not by the first certification.
If you read only one row, read the gap between the first and the third. The Salesforce premium is not in the ecosystem, it is in the progression. A career plan that stops at the entry role performs like the national average.
Where a Salesforce career stops working
The entry level is the part of the market that genuinely broke, and the survey data is blunt about it: 89 percent of Salesforce professionals say finding a job is harder than before, and administrator supply grew 47 percent in a single year against flat demand, with business analyst supply up 33 percent. Developer demand fell 12 percent even as developer pay rose, which is the signature of a market buying fewer but more senior people. Our full reading of the supply side is in the Salesforce job market analysis by country, role and skill.
- Certification stacking without delivery. Across our 187 European placements, a candidate holding three certifications and no shipped work loses every shortlist to one with a single certification and two live orgs behind them.
- Waiting for the market to reopen the junior door. It is not closing because of a cycle. Agent deflection and assisted configuration removed the repetitive share of the junior brief, and that share is not coming back. See what Agentforce is really changing for admins.
- Treating the admin role as a destination. The ten year table above is the whole argument. It is an excellent first job and a poor tenth year.
The moves that still pay in 2026
- Pick a second discipline by month 18. Development, integration, data, or functional consulting. The pay step in the table lands at year three, so the decision has to be made before it.
- Go where supply is not growing. Technical architect demand rose 27 percent and solution architect demand 21 percent against supply growth of roughly 4 percent for architects. That ratio, not the job title, is what pays 100,000 pounds.
- Own something an agent cannot. Agent scope, guardrails, rollback and data grounding are now named on senior briefs and did not exist as responsibilities two years ago. They are also the hardest claims to fake in an interview.
- Change employer deliberately, not reflexively. In the 2026 survey, 65 percent of people who stayed in their role received a raise, while a majority of job changers took a pay cut. Moving pays when it buys a new discipline, and costs money when it only buys a new logo.
Frequently asked questions
Is Salesforce still a good career for a complete beginner in 2026?
It is a good career and a bad entry point at the same time. The ecosystem is hiring more than it was (1,694 UK adverts against 988) but the door most beginners train for is the one that shrank: 95 administrator adverts over six months at a falling median. Entering through a junior developer, data or functional analyst brief is measurably easier in 2026 than entering through pure administration. The timeline question is covered in our honest answer on market saturation.
Will AI make Salesforce skills worthless in ten years?
Nothing in the current data points that way. The segment growing fastest inside Salesforce is the AI segment itself, with Agentforce annual recurring revenue up over 240 percent, and someone has to scope, govern and fix those agents. What AI is doing is deleting the repetitive bottom of the brief, which is a reason to move up rather than out.
How long does it take to reach architect pay?
Eight to twelve years is the realistic band in Europe, and it is a function of delivery history rather than certifications. The step by step view, with the pay plateau at each stage, is in our roadmap from admin to architect.
Does the 10 year model hold outside the UK?
The shape holds, the absolute numbers do not. The UK is used here because it publishes the cleanest advert level data in Europe. Germany, Switzerland and the Nordics pay above these medians in gross terms, Spain, Portugal and Poland below, and the net picture changes again after tax. Country by country figures sit in our European salary guide.
Apiire places Salesforce professionals across Europe, and the single clearest pattern in those 187 placements is that the people who win the good briefs are the ones who chose a second discipline early.
