Salesforce Consultant Job Description Template (Free, 2026)

A Salesforce consultant job description template decides whether you interview three strong consultants or forty certified strangers. Most of the free templates still ranking in 2026 describe a 2019 platform: they ask for Workflow Rules and Process Builder, both out of Salesforce support since 31 December 2025, and they leave out the two things that now separate a consultant from an admin, which are discovery and change management. The template below is written for the market as it stands in October 2026. Copy it, set the three calibration levers, post it with a salary band.

Methodology. UK advertised pay comes from IT Jobs Watch, read on 26 October 2026 over a six month window that contained only 9 permanent ads for that exact title, a sample we treat as indicative and not as a benchmark. Pay by country and seniority comes from the Salesforce Ben consultant salary guide, built on a survey of more than 3,500 respondents across 95 countries. The end of support date is Salesforce's own: Workflow Rules and Process Builder end of support. The effect of posting a band comes from Pin's salary range disclosure study, run on more than 15,000 job descriptions created between January 2024 and February 2026. Certification names follow the Trailhead catalogue, including the Salesforce Certified Agentforce Service Consultant credential. Screening ratios and timelines are Apiire's own, drawn from 187 European placements closed between January 2025 and August 2026, and flagged as such.

The 2026 Salesforce consultant job description template

Paste this into your ATS as it is. Three calibration levers do all the work: the primary cloud, the delivery model (client facing partner work or an internal programme), and the seniority label. Everything else holds from brief to brief.

Job title

Salesforce Consultant, [seniority], [primary cloud]. Example: Senior Salesforce Consultant, Service Cloud. If the role is genuinely requirements led rather than build led, Salesforce Functional Consultant is the honest string, and it is worth knowing it is a rare one: only 9 UK permanent ads carried that exact title in the six months to 26 October 2026. Avoid CRM Specialist, Business Systems Consultant and Digital Transformation Lead. The saved searches your best candidates actually run are keyed on the word Salesforce next to the word Consultant, and a creative title removes you from those alerts entirely.

Two sentence hook

We are hiring a Salesforce Consultant to lead discovery and delivery on [primary cloud] for [client portfolio or internal business unit], with a 2026 focus on [Flow consolidation / Data 360 readiness / an Agentforce pilot]. You will own the requirements, the solution design and the adoption, with a named architect to escalate to and a certification budget in writing.

Responsibilities, seven bullets and no more

  • Run discovery: stakeholder workshops, process mapping, and a written requirements set the business signs before any configuration starts.
  • Own solution design on [primary cloud]: declarative first, with a documented reason every time the answer is code, a managed package or a new licence.
  • Configure and demo in short cycles: build in a sandbox, show working software every two weeks, and let the demo drive the next round of requirements.
  • Own the data: migration scope, field mapping, deduplication rules, and the data quality baseline any Data 360 or Agentforce work will inherit.
  • Own user acceptance testing: write the scripts, run the sessions with real users, and triage defects against the signed requirements rather than against opinions.
  • Deliver change management: training by persona, release communications, a hypercare window, and an adoption metric agreed before go live.
  • Protect scope in writing: log every change request with its effort and its effect on the date, and say no with a number attached.

Must have skills: the Salesforce consultant skills list for 2026

  • Discovery and facilitation: can run a workshop with a sceptical sales director and leave with signed requirements, not notes.
  • Flow at production level: record triggered flows, screen flows, subflows and fault handling. Process Builder experience is not a substitute in 2026.
  • Deep configuration on one named cloud: Sales Cloud or Service Cloud to start with, Revenue Cloud, Field Service or Marketing Cloud if that is your stack.
  • Data work: migration planning, field mapping, a duplicate strategy, and enough reporting skill to prove the migration actually landed.
  • Written and spoken command of the project language at steering committee level. This is the single most common silent rejection in our European pipeline.
  • Salesforce Certified Administrator plus one consultant level credential on the relevant cloud. That is the baseline, not the achievement.

Nice to have for 2026

  • Agentforce exposure in production: agent configuration, grounding, topic design and testing, not a Trailhead badge.
  • Data 360, formerly Data Cloud: data streams, identity resolution, and the data readiness work underneath them.
  • CPQ or Revenue Cloud, if quoting and pricing are in scope. In the UK advertised sample above, CPQ, pricing strategy, ERP, SAP and Oracle appeared in every one of the 9 ads, which tells you what the high paying end of this title is really doing.
  • Industry depth in your sector, which routinely cuts weeks off the discovery phase.
  • An Agentforce consultant credential, such as the Salesforce Certified Agentforce Service Consultant, for service led programmes.

What to delete from the template you were about to copy

  1. Workflow Rules and Process Builder. Salesforce ended support for both on 31 December 2025. Active rules keep running, but with no bug fixes and no support behind them. Listing them as required skills dates your brief by half a decade. If your org still runs them, write the duty as migration to Flow, which reads as an interesting mandate, rather than as maintenance, which reads as inherited debt.
  2. The certification shopping list. Seven required credentials does not raise the bar, it selects exam takers over deliverers and pushes your ad to the bottom of the pile. Require two, prefer two more, and screen for shipped projects instead. How to test that in the room is in Questions to Ask When Interviewing a Salesforce Consultant.
  3. Apex, LWC and integration architecture on the same spec. A consultant who also builds, also integrates and also architects is three briefs in one, and the market price of that person is an architect salary. If the work is build led, use our Salesforce developer job description template. If it is configuration and governance led, the Salesforce admin job description template is the right starting point.

Seniority calibration before you post

The most expensive error in a consultant brief is not the salary line, it is asking a mid level consultant to carry client ownership with no architect above them. Calibrate against the grid below, then name the items in the right hand column explicitly. Briefs that name them close faster in our pipeline than briefs that leave them implicit.

What Salesforce consultants actually earn in 2026

Post a band, and post the one that matches the level you just calibrated. The two most cited public references disagree sharply here, and the disagreement is the useful part rather than an embarrassment.

Market and levelPay reference 2026Source and collection date

United States, CPQ consultant, seniorUSD 203,000SF Ben consultant survey

The gap between the 90,000 pound advertised median and the 76,124 pound senior survey median is sample and composition, not contradiction. Nine ads is a tiny window, and all nine carried CPQ, pricing strategy, ERP, SAP and Oracle, so that median prices a quoting and pricing specialist rather than a generalist Sales Cloud consultant. Read the advertised figure as the ceiling for a scarce specialism, and the survey rows as the market for the brief you are most likely writing. The 203,000 dollar US CPQ row makes the same point from the other side: the specialism pays, not the title. Full country context sits in our European Salesforce salary guide.

Post the band. In Pin's study of more than 15,000 job descriptions, recruiters built a median pipeline of 33 sourced candidates on salary disclosed roles against 22 on opaque ones, and the 2024 field experiment it cites across 20,088 jobs found applications up 49 percent when pay was disclosed. In the UK, Ireland and a growing list of EU jurisdictions, posting a range is becoming a legal requirement rather than a preference.

Functional or technical: write a functional consultant job description, or a technical one, never both

A functional consultant job description sells requirements, process and adoption. A technical consultant job description sells integration patterns, data model depth and the handover to developers. In the same survey, senior pay for the two diverges in the United States by more than 32,000 dollars in favour of the functional profile, which is the opposite of what most hiring managers assume when they add code to a consultant spec. Pick one of the two, name it in the title, and let the other be a nice to have. Briefs that blend them attract the people who are good at neither.

One channel note that matters more for consultants than for any other Salesforce seat: the strongest ones are rarely on job boards. They come through referral, user group and partner networks, which is why a consultant brief needs to read well when a colleague forwards it, not only when an algorithm matches it. The channel ranking we use is in Where to Find Salesforce Developers, and it applies with even more force to consultant hires.

Frequently asked questions

What should a Salesforce consultant job description include in 2026?

A precise title, a two sentence hook, seven responsibilities, six must have skills, a short nice to have list, the seniority level, and a posted salary band. Discovery and change management must appear explicitly, since those are what separate the role from an administrator brief. Workflow Rules and Process Builder must not appear at all.

What is the difference between a Salesforce consultant and a Salesforce admin job description?

The admin brief is about owning one org day to day: access model, data quality, releases, enablement. The consultant brief is about moving a business from a current state to a target state: workshops, requirements, solution design, user acceptance testing, adoption. If your spec has both, you are describing two hires or one very expensive one.

How many certifications should I require from a Salesforce consultant?

Two required, two preferred. Certified Administrator plus one consultant credential on your primary cloud covers the baseline, and anything beyond that belongs in the preferred list. Longer requirement lists shrink the pool without improving delivery, and they filter out the experienced consultants who stopped collecting credentials years ago.

Should a Salesforce consultant job description ask for Agentforce experience?

As a nice to have, unless an agent rollout is funded and already on the next six months of your roadmap. Production Agentforce experience is still scarce in Europe in late 2026, so making it a must have on a generalist consultant brief narrows the pool hard for a capability most orgs will not use this year.

What salary should I post on a Salesforce consultant job description?

Match the band to the calibration level, not to the headline. For a UK brief, a mid level consultant sits near the 46,595 pound survey median, a senior consultant at or above 76,124 pounds, and the 90,000 pound advertised median applies to CPQ and pricing specialists rather than to generalists. In Germany, senior functional consultants ran at 82,158 euros in the same survey.
